To begin, we just talked about next week. Since we'll be finishing Kaya off next week, I wanted to have everyone get involved. So I told the girls to each take one of 6 things, one for each person (including myself). These were:
- Make the Kaya dress
- Make traditional Nez Perce food
- Find traditional music
- Make a tepee for the dolls
- Find traditional games for us to play
- Teach us a Nez Perce craft (my sister chose parfleches)
So next week, I'll have a doll dress made, my youngest sister will have the traditional music (off of YouTube, most likely), my older sister will have traditional food, and so on.
Next, we played shinny. Shinny is a stick and ball game that Kaya played. I got the basic instructions off of this website, but made it a bit more relaxed rule-wise. I told the girls that they had to find their own sticks, so they went outside and hunted for some.
We then split into groups of two. My older sister couldn't be there that day. We had the odd one out be the referee, and when someone had a foul, they would switch out with the referee.
I was captain of my team, "The American Girls" (super original name).
My sister was captain of her team, "The Pretty Princesses."
We captains played rock, paper, scissors to decide who would start the game.
She won.
We used old cans of paint as the goalposts.
NOBODY IS GETTING HURT HERE! I PROMISE! My sister in the white, the referee, was calling my sister in blue out on a foul. They were both being overly dramatic for the sake of the camera.
See? Drama from the referee! And look at the other team captain. Simply laughing it off.
Drama.
And now the referee/photographer decides to take selfies.
We then took down the goalposts.
Then we played "Singing Rain" by having one girl be blindfolded, and another girl help her through an obstacle course. This was to show how Kaya helped Singing Rain so much.
And we had goldfish for a treat, just like the salmon from the book.
