American Girl Fashion

So... do you ever look into your monthly American Girl catalogue and see things like this:

And then you think...Yeah, I'll never be able to afford matching clothes.
Yeah...I have, too. But I have a solution. It may not be perfect, but it's pretty close. It's called: "match what you already have. Improvise."
So here are my sisters and I modeling improvisation: Finding stuff in out closet that looks like the stuff in the doll's clothes box.

Here we see a home-decorated headband.

Both wear a red patterned dress.
Both wear black mary janes.

Hair tied back in a yellow ribbon, and earrings. On my sister, it's actually duct tape because we don't have pierced ears. Once again, improvisation.

Here we see great use of a white sweatshirt.

Black pants.

Being barefoot is okay sometimes, and this is one of those times!

Green headband and loose hair

So...Kit's shirt is black, and my sister's shirt is green. But Kit's skirt is green and my sister's skirt is black, so it all works out.

Once again, switched skirts.

But they both have pink leopardskin leggings.

And sneakers.

Blue hair ribbon

Pink shirt with a white long-sleeved shirt underneath.

Jeans

Simple black shoes.

Yellow bandana. And in Samantha's case, yellow ribbon.

Hair ties!! Of course we had to wear these.

White shirt under a green shirt-thing. I tied a green bandana on Samantha's torso.

Pink capris and pants.

And sandals to tie everything together!

Notice that we used ribbons and yarn and bandanas and random cloth and such. You can do so too. It's not too difficult, actually.
So. Have we inspired you to do this with your doll or dolls? (Hint: Correct answer is "Yes,")

Now go forth and combine random items to create a matching doll-girl outfit without spending about $70.00 (because who actually wants to do that???) It's much easier to come up with semi-matching clothes than to pay that much.
